What to do when your app vendor disappears
A practical recovery plan when your developer, agency or software vendor is gone and the system still needs to run.

First, protect the business continuity
When a vendor disappears, the immediate priority is not a redesign. It is keeping the current system stable enough for the business to operate while you regain control.
- Locate hosting, domain, database and admin access.
- Freeze risky changes until the system is backed up.
- Identify the workflows that would hurt revenue if they fail.
Recover technical ownership
Most rescue work starts with access, documentation and dependency mapping. Without that, every fix is guesswork and every future vendor inherits the same chaos.
- Create a source-code and database backup.
- Map third-party services, APIs and payment flows.
- Document deployment steps and known failure points.
Decide: stabilize, rebuild or replace
Not every broken app deserves a rebuild. The right answer depends on business value, technical debt, security exposure and the cost of downtime.
